Governor Kachapin Calls for Unity to Propel Development in West Pokot

WEST POKOT: West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin emphasized the critical role of unity and cooperation among leaders and government employees in achieving the county’s development goals. Addressing the Mashujaa celebrations at Makutano Primary in West Pokot County, Kachapin attributed the county’s progress to effective collaboration between county staff and the national government.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Kachapin highlighted ongoing partnerships with neighboring counties, such as Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet, to ensure security within and beyond West Pokot. He expressed pride in the county’s developmental achievements and urged residents to support government initiatives, warning against divisive actions that could hinder progress.

Kachapin stressed the importance of a harmonious relationship between county assembly officials and national government representatives for efficient service delivery. He called on Members of Parliament and other county leaders to avoid engaging in premature politi
cs, advocating instead for unity to focus on service delivery, economic development, and security.

The governor urged leaders to prioritize community development and economic empowerment over personal interests. He emphasized the necessity of unity for achieving development and urged leaders to concentrate on initiatives that benefit residents.

Governor Kachapin also called on county employees to fulfill their responsibilities diligently, emphasizing the impact of their performance on residents’ access to essential services. He warned of consequences for underperformance and highlighted the importance of participation in national celebrations to address residents’ demands.

County Commissioner Abdulahi Khalif reiterated the national government’s commitment to service delivery, urging collaboration with the county government. He emphasized the need for fair benefits from mineral resources and announced plans to reopen closed border schools by January, with improved security measures.

er Fred Kaptui addressed the high illiteracy rate in the county, calling for more teachers to bridge the educational gap. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration between the county commissioner and governor in assessing security and urged an investigation into recent incidents involving the Kenya Defence Forces.

Mnagei ward Member of County Assembly, Richard Todosia, raised concerns about inequalities in electricity access within the municipality. He criticized the allocation of electric power and teacher positions, urging the county commissioner to address these disparities.
