OUAHIGOUYA: Governor Issouf Ouédraogo of the Northern Region of Burkina Faso has rallied the local populations and constituted bodies for a mass blood donation drive in response to the President of Faso’s appeal for increased patriotic commitment and citizen participation. This initiative, part of a broader two-week series of events emphasizing national unity and civic responsibility, saw significant participation on October 15, 2024, underscoring the community’s dedication to national efforts.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the blood donation event, held at Place de la Nation in Ouahigouya, marked the culmination of two weeks filled with various patriotic activities. These included the raising of the national flag, wearing traditional attire at public events, and discussions on maintaining a healthy environment. The initiative also coincided with the launch of a mobile clinic by the Ouahigouya University Hospital Center, which began offering free breast and cervical cancer screenings for women age
d 45 and over.
In addition to health services, a special operation facilitated by ONI Ouahigouya’s services was set up to help displaced persons and others in challenging circumstances to obtain necessary identification documents swiftly. This was part of a broader effort to ensure that all residents could participate fully in civic life, regardless of their personal hardships.
Governor Ouédraogo, in his address, highlighted the significance of the October 15 activities, connecting them to the broader theme of sustained patriotism. “This historic date inspired us to organize this blood collection activity which is a patriotic act. Beyond these days, I congratulate and encourage the populations for the perfect mobilization and I urge them to remain patriotic throughout the year and for life,” he stated.
The governor’s call reflects a growing push across Burkina Faso for greater civic engagement and national solidarity, particularly in regions facing significant challenges.
