KAKAMEGA: Governor Fernandes Barasa and local MPs have emphasized the need for increased collaboration among elected officials and other educational stakeholders to bolster the educational framework in Kakamega County. During the inauguration of a new classroom block at Tekoa Comprehensive School, they discussed strategies for leveraging local and national resources to improve academic outcomes.
According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Barasa praised the significant progress in the educational sector made by Lugari constituency under the leadership of MP Nabii Nabwera. He highlighted the recent construction of an eight-classroom block funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund. The governor expressed his support for Nabwera’s ongoing projects and acknowledged the impactful partnership between the county and national government in achieving educational goals.
In his address, Governor Barasa revealed that last year, each of the six wards in the constituency received Sh24 million from the
county bursary scheme to assist needy learners. He assured that the same amount would be allocated this financial year to ensure that disadvantaged students continue to have access to education.
MP Nabwera detailed his “Ondoa Matope” initiative, which aims to replace old, mud-walled classrooms with modern facilities. He underscored his commitment to enhancing the learning environment, which has already led to the construction of three multi-storey buildings and the upgrading of 14 schools in the past two years.
The collaboration between the county and national government was also highlighted by Nabwera as a crucial element in the educational advancements in Lugari. He shared that effective coordination had allowed the maximization of resources, preventing duplication in bursary beneficiaries and broadening the impact on the community’s educational access.
Further support came from Likuyani Legislator Innocent Mugabe, who commended Nabwera for his unmatched efforts in improving both the infrastructure and t
he academic performance of schools in the constituency. Western Kenya KEPSHA Chair Andrew Omusale and Lugari KNUT Branch Chairman Godfrey Muleri joined in praising the investments in education, calling on parents and stakeholders to ensure that the improved facilities translate into academic excellence.
The newly inaugurated classroom block at Tekoa Comprehensive School, designed to hold at least 60 learners per classroom, stands as a testament to the productive cooperation between different levels of government and the community’s commitment to educational advancement.
