Luanda: Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning, and Housing Carlos Alberto dos Santos highlighted the progress of the rehabilitation and construction of access roads to the Muxima region in the Qui§ama municipality of the Icolo e Bengo province. The minister spoke with the press after President Joo Louren§o visited the town of Muxima to assess the progress of ongoing construction projects.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the 24-kilometer stretch of road connecting Catete and Cabala is complete and properly signposted. The project includes the construction of a new 14-meter-long bridge, as well as the rehabilitation of the previous structure. The new bridge is equipped with more than 100 lights, which improve safety and traffic flow, including at night.
Dos Santos also mentioned the road's widening from nine to twelve meters, which allows for greater traffic flow and facilitates mobility between different points in the region. Regarding complementary access routes, the minister mentioned a conservation program for the stretch between Catete and Muxima that will reduce travel time.
The minister announced a road project that will connect Muxima, Dembaxiu, Caxarandada, and Mumbondo, creating a direct corridor to the neighboring province of Cuanza Sul. Since 2022, the Angolan Executive has been carrying out a project to requalify the town of Muxima. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the project aims to transform the Muxima Sanctuary into an important center for religious tourism.
The project includes constructing a new basilica and rehabilitating the fort. Financed by approximately 118 million euros under the Portugal-Angola credit line, the project demonstrates the government's commitment to improving living conditions and promoting religious tourism.
