Katima Mulilo: The Government has responded to a recent unauthorised demonstration by the United Democratic Party (UDP), held in Katima Mulilo on 4 June 2025. A group of UDP members gathered at the Katima Mulilo Open Market, where they sang and chanted, calling for the return of exiled leader Mishake Muyongo to come back home and form a government.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Office of the Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Audrin Mathe, issued a statement on Tuesday addressing the event. The Government stated that the issues raised by the UDP are not new and represent a continuation of the secessionist rhetoric that has been consistently rejected by both the Government and the people of Namibia since the failed armed rebellion of August 1999.

The Government emphasized that the latest attempt by the banned UDP to revive calls for self-determination and territorial separation has not succeeded in testing the current administration’s resolve. The statement reiterated that Namibia’s territorial integrity remains unchanged, asserting that the Zambezi Region is an integral part of the sovereign territory. The UDP’s demands for military withdrawal, prisoner releases, and implementation of historical agreements were dismissed as lacking legal foundation and constitutional validity.

Additionally, Mathe highlighted that the Government remains focused on providing jobs and essential services to all Namibians, including those in the Zambezi Region. Significant investments continue to be made in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development in the area.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that the Government’s priority is nation-building and the development of all Namibians. Any attempts to destabilize the peace and stability in the Zambezi Region or any other part of the country will be met with the full force of the law.
