Makueni: The government is committed to ensuring that all National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) have well-equipped operational offices to deliver quality services to the public efficiently. Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen emphasized the government’s dedication to equipping and digitizing offices and providing vehicles to facilitate easy access to grassroots areas.

According to Kenya News Agency, Murkomen briefed the media outside the Makueni County Commissioner’s office, stating, “You must look into the welfare of the people you lead. If you go to a police station and find there is no cell, or it is grossly understaffed, this will impact negatively on service delivery.” He stressed the importance of having proper facilities for officers to serve from, highlighting the link between officer welfare and service provision.

Later, at the Jukwaa la Usalama forum held at Makueni Boys High School, Murkomen announced plans for standardized designs for National Administration and police offices. Chiefs, their assistants, police, and other officials discussed their performance and welfare issues, including promotions and mobility, while the public from 10 sub-counties shared their views on local issues.

Murkomen also addressed the need for Sh2.5 billion to operationalize newly created administrative units and assured that security agencies would protect critical infrastructure. He directed that chiefs’ uniforms be distributed at county headquarters to avoid unnecessary trips to Nairobi.

Furthermore, Murkomen warned against bribery, stating he would not defend any officer involved in corruption. He called for collective efforts to tackle gender-based violence, suicide, murder, defilement, and rape, which were prevalent in the area.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr raised concerns about vandalism of government projects, particularly in Kilome, and urged for changes within the security agencies. He linked increased suicide cases to land disputes and proposed each ward have a budget for succession matters to facilitate the issuance of title deeds.

Additionally, the governor proposed that the County Conservation Committee hold meetings in Kibwezi to address human-wildlife conflicts locally, reducing travel costs for affected residents. Makueni Member of Parliament Susan Ndunge Kiamba criticized the quality of affordable housing projects and called for better supervision to ensure value for money.
