Nairobi: The government has announced plans to open civil registration offices in the Sabatia and Luanda sub-counties of Vihiga County, aiming to decentralize services and promote equitable access for all citizens. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bring government services closer to the people, as articulated by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen during a visit to Vihiga County.
According to Kenya News Agency, Cabinet Secretary Murkomen underscored that the establishment of these offices aligns with the Kenya Kwanza administration's commitment to ensuring that crucial government services are accessible to every Kenyan. In addition to the new offices, the government is contemplating reducing the cost of acquiring birth certificates, following a recent waiver on National Identity Card fees, to further alleviate the financial burden on families.
"We are deliberate in ensuring that every Kenyan accesses any crucial official document, without encountering prohibitive costs or travelling for long distances," stated Murkomen, emphasizing the government's dedication to removing barriers to essential services. The establishment of these local offices reflects a significant step toward enhancing the efficiency and reach of civil registration services in the region.
