Eldama Ravine: The government is set to assign new roles to the Agricultural Society of Kenya (A.S.K) by organizing quarterly sub-shows nationwide, according to Agriculture Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Kiprono Ronoh. He announced this development during a two-day farmers’ field event in Eldama Ravine, emphasizing the need to optimize the annual ASK shows to fulfill their potential and intended purpose.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Ronoh highlighted the government’s plan to transition A.S.K into agro-cities, where county products would be showcased, allowing investors to identify and distinguish export products. He proposed that regions like Baringo could hold quarterly sub-shows in different constituencies, culminating in an annual showcase of all products.
Dr. Ronoh stressed the importance of holding these shows at the constituency level to educate farmers on best agricultural practices. He urged Governor Benjamin Cheboi to establish a permanent building at the Kabarnet main showground for the continuous display of products, accessible to visitors at any time.
Governor Cheboi welcomed the initiative, acknowledging its potential to connect farmers with various markets and potential partners. He noted that such exhibitions would encourage farmers to adopt transformative technologies and modern farming methods, ultimately enhancing growth and development in the agricultural sector.
Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament Musa Sirma, who advocated for more exhibitions following the successful two-day event, highlighted the region’s significant contribution to agricultural produce in the county. He emphasized the need for support from the PS’s department and other stakeholders to help local farmers penetrate global markets.
