The South Africa Government wishes to advise the nation on the arrangements for the Official Funeral of the late Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize who passed away on Thursday, 16 September 2021.
At the time of her passing, Prof Mkhize was serving as the Deputy Minister in The Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.
President Ramaphosa has accorded Prof Mkhize an Official Funeral Category 2 with police honours.
- Memorial Service
In memory of the late Deputy Minister, government will host a memorial service ahead of the funeral service. The memorial service will be held as follows:
Date: Thursday, 23 September 2021
Time: 10h00
Venue: Walter Sisulu Hall, Malibongwe Drive, Randburg.
NB: All COVID-19 health protocols will be observed including Level 2 Lockdown regulations.
- Funeral Service
Details of the funeral service are as follows:
Date: Saturday, 25 September 2021
Time: 10h00
Venue: Fourways Memorial Park Chapel
Prof Mkhize will be laid to rest at the Fourways Memorial Cemetery adjacent to the church.

- Broadcast and live feed
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and other major television broadcast channels will broadcast the funeral live. In addition, the Government Communication System (GCIS) will stream the funeral service live on digital and social media platforms of government.
Mourners who are unable to attend the funeral service are encouraged to follow the proceedings on the television channels and the following platforms:

In line with the provisions of the Official Funeral Category 2, President Ramaphosa has directed that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in South Africa from Tuesday, 21 September 2021, until the evening of the day of the funeral on 25 September 2021.
