Maralal: The national government has inaugurated four new offices in Maralal town, Samburu County, aiming to improve service delivery in the expansive region. This initiative is expected to bring crucial government services closer to the local population.
According to Kenya News Agency, the newly established Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) include the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOHS), the Ministry of Mining, and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC). These agencies were previously based in regional offices located in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, or Nakuru City, a considerable distance from the residents of Samburu.
County Commissioner John Cheruiyot welcomed the newly appointed officers, emphasizing that the absence of these agencies in Samburu had previously hindered effective service delivery. The establishment of local offices is anticipated to reduce costs and travel time for residents who had to cover great distances to access these services.
Cheruiyot also disclosed plans for a new land registry office in Maralal town, which would alleviate the burden on residents who currently seek land services from Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County. He advocated for policy reforms that would ensure more regional offices are established in Maralal for better service outreach.
On the issue of security, Cheruiyot assured both the new officers and the local community of their safety. Security patrols have been intensified along significant routes, including the Maralal-Baragoi road, the Archer's Post-Merille highway, and the Malaso belt bordering Baringo County. The government has increased the number of armed National Police Reservists to over 700 and has secured all known insecurity hotspots to allow government employees and residents to conduct their activities without fear.
