Government Delegation Engages UNICEF on 2027-2030 Cooperation Program

Ouagadougou: A government delegation held a working session this Thursday with the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Ted Chaiban, and his colleagues.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was chaired by Major General C©lestin Simpor©, Minister of State, Minister of War and Patriotic Defence, with participation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Deputy Minister, as well as Ministers responsible for Education, Health, National Solidarity, and Justice. This consultation aims to formulate a new 2027-2030 cooperation program between the government and UNICEF, aligning UNICEF's actions with national priorities and Burkina Faso's new development framework.

The Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF praised the government's efforts and reforms to ensure children's rights in Burkina Faso, expressing satisfaction with presidential initiatives in education and health. Notable successes include education programs in emergency situations, good vaccination coverage, nutrition efforts, and the supply of essential medicines. He also acknowledged the revision of the Personal and Family Code, which enhances child protection.

Mr. Chaiban emphasized recognizing and commending positive results while advocating for continued momentum and increased budget allocation to address challenges. On the humanitarian front, he highlighted the need for joint needs assessment actions and specific measures for children affected by armed conflict, as well as initiatives for the withdrawal and protection of children from armed groups.

The ministers expressed appreciation for the partnership with UNICEF and reiterated their commitment to strengthening actions for quality education, health, and child development in Burkina Faso. The government and UNICEF agreed to enhance dialogue and consultation mechanisms for effective data harmonization and action planning for children's welfare.

UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban has been visiting Burkina Faso since April 15, 2026. His mission includes exchanges with Burkinabe authorities and a field visit to the Liptako region, supporting efforts to promote children's rights.
