Government Calls for Revitalization of Cancer Screening Culture

Bengo: Bengo’s deputy governor for political, economic and social sector, JosĀ© Bartolomeu Pedro, on Thursday called for the revitalization of the culture of screening and self-examination as a way of preventing cancer in communities. Speaking at a training event for the support centre of the Women Against Breast Cancer Foundation in Bengo, he stressed that cancer is a public health problem and that society needs to come together and create synergies to address aspects related to the risks, diagnosis and prevention measures of this disease.



According to Angola Press News Agency, Jos© Bartolomeu Pedro emphasized the necessity of permanently awakening society with awareness campaigns to revitalize the culture of screening and self-examination in communities. The deputy governor highlighted the importance of community involvement in these efforts, suggesting that consistent campaigns could significantly contribute to cancer prevention.



The chairperson of the Women Against Breast Cancer Foundation, Eulalia Rocha, explained that the training program aims to prepare the members of the centre to work with communities, disseminating information about cancer, and contributing to its prevention. Rocha underscored the initiative’s goal to train centre members to perform their duties more effectively, standardize prevention campaigns by the foundation at a national level, and increase community involvement in these campaigns.
