Government and Media Scale Pic Nahouri in Tourism Push

Center-South - In a bold initiative to promote internal tourism, a delegation led by the Minister of Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, along with journalists and influencers, scaled the 447-meter high Pic du Nahouri this Sunday. The climb marked the culmination of a two-day tour within the Nahouri province, starting from the city of Pô.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event aimed to showcase the scenic beauty of the region and encourage local tourism. The climb was part of a broader effort by the government to highlight various tourist destinations across the country following a drop in international visitors due to ongoing global and regional challenges. Participants included government officials, the governor of the Center-South region, local authorities, and media personnel, totaling about a hundred people at the base of the mountain.

While some attendees enjoyed local snacks and drinks at the base, others ventured to various heights for photographs. The more adventurous reached the summit, enjoying expansive views that extend beyond the border into Ghana. The governor of the South-Central region, Massadalo Yvette Nacoulam/Sanou, and Adama Segda, deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, were among those who navigated the peak’s challenging terrain.

No incidents were reported during the climb, and those who reached the summit first received prizes from Minister Ouédraogo. The group also made a courtesy visit to the local village chief in Nahouri-Pê before returning to Pô for a communal lunch, and later, to Ouagadougou.

The excursion also included visits to the Royal Court of Tiébélé, a world heritage site, and historical locales such as the refuge of Louis Gustave Binger in Tiakané. This tour is part of a seasonal initiative to invigorate domestic travel and community bonding among residents of Burkina Faso, highlighting the government's ongoing efforts to stimulate local economic and cultural engagement.
