Fada N’Gourma: Forty-eight hours before the Tabaski festival on June 6, 2025, throughout Burkina Faso, the price of a ram is trading between 100,000 and 400,000 CFA francs in Fada N’Gourma, AIB noted on site. A visit to the Fada N’Gourma livestock market, the only functional livestock market in the Eastern region due to security concerns, revealed the current trading prices ahead of the sheep festival.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Salifou Konf©, the provincial director in charge of animal resources in Gourma, reported an increase in animal prices compared to the previous year. He attributed the price range of 100,000 to 400,000 CFA francs to the difficulties breeders face in adequately feeding their animals, resulting in thinner livestock.
Livestock market operator Abdou Diallo confirmed the higher prices, noting that medium-sized rams are priced between 100,000 and 150,000 CFA francs, while some rams exceed 300,000 CFA francs. Diallo attributed the price surge to the scarcity of sheep, caused by the inaccessibility of traditional pastoral areas.
Patrice Choco Koudougou, a buyer, mentioned purchasing a ram for 139,500 CFA francs, a significant increase from the 70,000 to 100,000 CFA francs previously paid for a ram of similar size.
