Gourma: SOTRACO Network Lines Approved to Improve Urban Mobility

Gourma: The Secretary General of the Gourma region, Siaka Ouattara, presided over a validation workshop for the lines of the new network of the Public Transport Company (SOTRACO) aimed at improving traffic flow and access to public transport in the city of Yendabli.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the arrival of the SOTRACO network was eagerly awaited by the people of Fada N'Gourma for several reasons. The Secretary General highlighted that the introduction of the buses will help alleviate the city's challenges, including a significant influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Ouattara emphasized that the new transport system will also facilitate travel for students, especially those attending Abdoulaye Toguyeni Yembila University, which is often far from the city center. This initiative is expected to reduce transportation costs for households.

Furthermore, the Secretary General noted that the bus network will enable civil servants to move around more efficiently, thus decreasing the reliance on two-wheeled vehicles and enhancing road safety.

Drissa Sawadogo, the general manager of SOTRACO, explained the importance of a robust bus network to SOTRACO's mission. He stated that the objective is to address the real mobility needs of the population, and about fifteen buses will be introduced in Fada N'Gourma along selected routes.

Urban transport fares will range between 150 and 200 CFA francs, while those for the intercommunal network will be determined by travel distances. Sawadogo also highlighted that a transport network acts as a catalyst for development, facilitating opportunities and promoting social dignity.

He assured that authorities are committed to enhancing citizens' mobility through tailored and accessible services. The implementation of the SOTRACO network in Fada N'Gourma is anticipated to improve travel flow, bolster road safety, minimize environmental impact, and ensure equal access to public transport for all users.
