Gourma Province Ranks Second Nationally in Reforestation Efforts

Baku: The High Commissioner of the Gourma province, Silas Nacanabo, congratulated the actors of the province for their strong mobilization which enabled Gourma to rank second nationally at the end of the evaluation of the 2026 edition of the Patriotic Hour to re-green Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the highest authorities of Burkina Faso had set a target of planting 05 million plants nationwide, including 800,000 plants for the regions of Goulmou, Sirba, and Tapoa. The evaluation results revealed that the Gourma province recorded 704,610 plants planted, allowing it to occupy second place at the national level.

The High Commissioner praised the commitment of the actors who contributed to this performance, including the heads of administrative districts, religious and customary authorities, heads of decentralized services, civil society organizations, as well as all the populations of the province. He also gave special mention to the Water and Forestry technicians for their constant support and decisive contribution to the success of this national reforestation initiative.

While welcoming these results, Mr. Nacanabo invited the people to continue their efforts by ensuring the maintenance of the planted seedlings, particularly through their protection by fences and regular watering. He emphasized that the success of this campaign is not measured solely by the number of plants planted, but also by their survival rate.

Silas Nacanabo thus urged all actors to maintain their commitment so that the Gourma province is among the best in the next assessment of plant survival.
