Yendabili: The High Commissioner of the Gourma province, Silas Nacanabo, launched the first edition of the Civic and Patriotic Guidance (ECP) for middle school students in the city of Yendabili. The event took place at Diaba Lompo high school in Fada N'Gourma, where administrative and educational authorities, civilian and military supervisors, school administrators, and students gathered to mark this significant initiative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the program aims to reform Burkina Faso's education system while reinforcing core national values. High Commissioner Nacanabo emphasized that this initiative seeks to cultivate responsible and disciplined citizens, committed to their country amidst ongoing national challenges. He clarified that the Civic Education Program (ECP) is an educational framework designed to instill civic responsibility, patriotism, solidarity, respect for authority, and a sense of collective effort among students.
The provincial director of Secondary Education for Gourma, Hamadou Gassamb©, announced that 14,859 students, comprising 8,030 girls and 6,829 boys from 24 public and private schools, will participate in this program. He highlighted that over six weeks, the students will engage in activities focused on discipline, solidarity, community spirit, and the fight against issues like drugs and school violence. Physical endurance through sporting activities will also be emphasized.
Authorities urged civilian and military supervisors and educational officials to maintain rigor and exemplary conduct to ensure the program's success. They called on parents, community leaders, and stakeholders to support this collective responsibility. Convinced of the program's positive impact on student development and social cohesion, the High Commissioner officially launched the 2026 edition of the Civic and Patriotic Education program.
