Gourma: Local Stakeholders Mobilize for Unified Social Registry Redeployment

Gourma: The High Commissioner of the Gourma Province, Silas Nacanabo, representing the Governor of the Goulmou Region, presided over a workshop in Fada N'Gourma focused on the redeployment of the Unified Social Registry (RSU). This workshop aimed to inform local stakeholders and raise awareness about supporting the ongoing data collection operation in certain municipalities of the province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is crucial for Burkina Faso. The High Commissioner, Silas Nacanabo, emphasized the importance of the Single Social Registry in helping the State and its partners better understand the social situation of the population. This understanding will enable more effective guidance of social protection policies and programs. Previously, the absence of a single social registry in Burkina Faso led to challenges in social interventions, including data duplication and the exclusion of vulnerable individuals.

Nacanabo pointed out that the RSU will offer reliable and scientific data on poor and vulnerable households, thus aiding development planning and the execution of targeted social actions. He encouraged residents in the affected municipalities to welcome survey agents warmly and provide accurate information during data collection. "We want everyone to honestly declare their social situation so that the authorities can better provide responses tailored to the needs of the population," he stated.

Lucien Iboudo, head of the information systems department at the RSU technical secretariat, explained that the RSU is a national database that consolidates information on poor and vulnerable households in Burkina Faso. The aim is to make this database available to social projects and programs, facilitating beneficiary identification and improving the effectiveness of social protection interventions.

In Gourma province, the current phase of RSU deployment includes three communes: Diabo, Diapangou, and Tibga. Iboudo reassured that other municipalities would be gradually integrated into the process in subsequent phases. The administrative authorities and local stakeholders aim to strengthen community mobilization to ensure the success of this data collection operation for the benefit of vulnerable populations.
