Gourma High Commissioner Presides Over Planning Session for Sustainable Development

Fada n'gourma: The High Commissioner of the Gourma province, Silas Nacanabo, presided over the provincial session on planning and sustainable development of the Gourma territory on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in Fada N'Gourma. The session aimed to examine the provisional report of the Master Plan for Planning and Sustainable Development of the municipality (SDADDC), which is part of the Emergency Project for Territorial Development and Resilience (PUDTR).

According to Burkina Information Agency, High Commissioner Silas Nacanabo highlighted the challenging security and socio-economic context in Burkina Faso. He urged participants to remain vigilant and to strengthen collaboration with the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland. The session focused on verifying the report's compliance with national and regional planning standards, examining cartographic aspects, proposed scenarios, and the implementation charter of the scheme.

High Commissioner Nacanabo encouraged provincial stakeholders to actively contribute to enriching the document that will serve as the basis for local planning. Somda Raissa Bila, responsible for the development process, stated that the SDADDC constitutes a long-term spatial planning tool covering 20 to 30 years, proposing a vision for the development of Fada N'Gourma by 2050. The process began in November 2024, resulting in a provisional report validated by the Municipal Planning Commission.

The provincial stage assesses the overall consistency of the document with regional and national ambitions before its transmission for adoption to the Special Delegation Council of the municipality. Ms. Bila explained that the plan is based on a detailed territorial diagnosis, considering the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and constraints of the municipality, particularly those related to insecurity and population displacements. The document provides projections and guidelines on basic social infrastructure, spatial organization, structuring facilities, road connectivity improvement, and anticipation of the population's needs by 2050.

If adopted, the report will serve as a reference for all actors involved in the municipality, including the administration, local authorities, technical and financial partners, NGOs, and associations. Silas Nacanabo praised the work of decentralized technical structures, projects, and programs, as well as organizations engaged in local development. He encouraged members of the Provincial Commission to make relevant contributions to strengthen the document before final validation.

Work continues with a view to its imminent adoption by the municipal authorities, a step which will allow the scheme to become an operational instrument for guiding investments, structuring the territory, and coordinating interventions for the coming decades in the municipality of Fada N'Gourma.
