Gourma Celebrates Achievements in Primary Education Amidst Challenges

FADA N’GOURMA — The province of Gourma marked significant achievements in primary education on July 18, 2024, celebrating the dedication of educators and stakeholders despite ongoing security challenges. The event, themed ‘Excellence at School in Times of Resilience: Light of Hope,’ not only highlighted the successes but also rewarded the exemplary efforts of individuals in the educational sector.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the High Commissioner of Gourma province, Silas Nacanabo. It recognized various educators and stakeholders who have shown exceptional dedication in ensuring educational rights amid terrorist activities in the region. The director, Kamimana Singbéogo, extended his gratitude to all contributors who have been pivotal in navigating through these difficult times. He noted the province’s achievement of an 82.32% success rate in the recent Primary Education Certificate (CEP) examination—a significant improvement from the previous year’s 71.01%.

At the event, the Basic Education District (CEB) of Fada N’Gourma I was particularly lauded for claiming nearly all category prizes, placing it at the forefront of the CEB rankings. Among the distinguished, Yacouba Togyéni, a teacher from the Baapouguini B school, was celebrated as the best teacher in the province with a remarkable 90.12% success rate among his 162 candidates. His achievement earned him a motorcycle as a reward.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards including letters of recognition, bicycles, educational kits, and various other materials to the winners, acknowledging their hard work and resilience in promoting education in Gourma.
