Gourma Apprenticeship Program Completes Weaving and Dyeing Training for Internally Displaced Women

Ouagadougou: The SELINTAANBA vocational training center concluded a training session for 50 internally displaced women in Fada N'Gourma, focusing on weaving and dyeing Kokodonda fabric. According to Burkina Information Agency, the training was divided into two phases. The first cohort of 25 women, which included three primary school teachers, completed a five-day course in Kokodonda fabric dyeing. The second cohort, also consisting of 25 women, underwent a ten-day weaving training. This initiative was facilitated by Bouampoundi Ouoba, the founder of the SELINTAANBA vocational training center, with support from a partner organization. Despite the progress, some trainees faced dietary challenges during the training period. Ms. Ouoba emphasized that the center provides free training to those passionate about weaving and dyeing. She mentioned that after a year of training, some participants are eligible to take the Professional Qualification Certificate (CQP) exam. However, a significant challenge remains in se lling the products made by the center. Ms. Ouoba expressed a desire to form partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations to expand training to schools, aligning with the national authorities' vision. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Zolika Dima, a primary school teacher, shared her intention to pass on her newly acquired dyeing skills to her students after mastering the craft. Since its establishment in 2015 and official recognition in 2021, the SELINTAANBA vocational training center has been dedicated to providing free training to internally displaced persons, particularly women, with the goal of enhancing their socio-economic empowerment.
