Gourma: An Organization Raises Awareness Among Young People in the Fight Against Terrorism.

Gourma: The Civil Society Organization “le Vent républicain” hosted a panel on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in Fada N’Gourma to encourage young people’s involvement in the fight against terrorism. For nearly a decade, Burkina Faso has been grappling with a conflict attributed to imperialism, prompting a national struggle for liberation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, “Vent Républicain” has launched activities across the 13 regions of the country. These initiatives aim to enable the population, especially the youth, to fully understand the stakes involved in this struggle and commit to a united and prosperous Burkina Faso. The organization emphasized the necessity of these efforts in the context of an AES that is deemed essential.

The panel held in Yendabili focused on “Civic and patriotic commitment of young people in the reconquest of the national territory and the effectiveness of sovereignty.” National coordinator Oscar Séraphin Ki highlighted that their regional activities are part of a broade
r mobilization of youth and the general population, supporting the shift and paradigm change initiated by the President of Faso. He stressed the importance of fostering a synergy of action among Defense and Security Forces and the civilian population in this shared patriotic struggle.

Commander Habib T. Sourabié, a panelist and commander of the security group for the Eastern region, emphasized the need for public contribution in combating terrorism and serious crime. He believes that only through collective efforts can Burkina Faso overcome the challenges posed by barbarism. Commander Sourabié noted that contributions from the population, particularly in social and religious contexts, could prove beneficial.

David Sagnan, the panel’s sponsor, underscored the critical nature of public involvement, citing the tragic impact of the war on numerous families and the suffering imposed on innocent people.
