GOURCY — The patriarch of the royal ‘Warma’ family of Gourcy, El Hadj Abdoulaye Ouédraogo, known as ‘Sambolgo’, was honored in a funeral ceremony on Friday at his family home in sector 2 of Gourcy, following his passing at the age of 103.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the funeral on June 28, 2024, drew tributes from across the community for ‘Old Sambolgo’, a respected figure who retired in 1976 after many years in public administration. He died on June 21, 2024. Community members remembered him as a leader who had been instrumental in the challenges and achievements of his generation. The funeral also served as the ‘doua’ for the 7th day following his death. El Hadj Abdoulaye Ouédraogo is noted as the last of the ‘fathers’ of the ‘Warma’ family, from which Naaba Baongho, the current head of Gourcy, is descended.
