Gourcy Gendarmerie Officially Transfers Premises to National Police

Zondoma: The Gourcy gendarmerie marked its effective disengagement by officially handing over its premises to the police on Thursday, November 28, 2025. The national police is now the sole authority in the city of Gourcy. This transition was formalized by the disengagement of the gendarmerie, culminating in the official handover of the keys to the premises to the national police, under the supervision of the High Commissioner of the province of Zondoma, Aboubacar Sidiki Nab.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this move follows a decision by the country's authorities to reorganize the deployment of defense and security forces across the national territory. The objective is to prevent duplication of police and gendarmerie in the same locality, thereby enhancing the security network of the country. The High Commissioner addressed those present at the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of the transition and expressing gratitude for the services rendered by the gendarmerie. He urged the community to now rely on the police for security and other services, and encouraged the new beneficiaries to make effective use of the infrastructure.

During the handover ceremony, the commander of the Boureima Niamba brigade expressed a sense of accomplishment and thanked the population for their support during the gendarmerie's mission. Additionally, the gendarmes received commendations from the representative of His Majesty Naba Baongo de Gourcy for the collaboration with the community. The gendarmerie has been serving Gourcy since it opened its doors in 1987.
