Gourcy Demonstrators Support Extended Leadership for Captain Traoré Until 2050

Gourcy, Burkina Faso — On May 11, 2024, the Citizen Monitoring Associations of Zondoma rallied at the Place de la Nation in Gourcy, advocating for Captain Ibrahim Traoré to remain in power until 2050. This demonstration occurred on the eve of a national conference, signaling strong local support for the ongoing transition under Captain Traoré’s leadership.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a member of the coalition, the rally aimed to articulate the group’s desire for Captain Traoré to continue his leadership indefinitely. The demonstrators also visited the Gourcy high commission, where they presented a note outlining their demands, including postponing elections until the entire territory is reconquered and finding a way to sustain Captain Traoré’s governance. The Secretary General of the province, Anatole Kaboré, received the demonstrators and assured them that their message would be conveyed to the relevant parties.
