Gourcy Celebrates Excellence in Education with Awards Ceremony

Gourcy, Burkina Faso – The Provincial Directorate of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DPEPPNF) in Zondoma held an award ceremony in Gourcy on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to honor distinguished contributors in the education sector for the 2023 academic year. The event recognized individuals and institutions that demonstrated exceptional dedication and performance.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Hélène Tiendrébeogo from Tougo B public primary school was awarded the title of best teacher in Zondoma province for the year 2023. She achieved an impressive success rate of 98.11% in the Examination of the Certificate of Primary Studies (CEP) with her 53 students. Tiendrébeogo was honored with a tablet, a set of supplies, and a letter of congratulations during the ceremony.



The event was presided over by the High Commissioner of Zondoma province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabé. Karim Sawadogo, the provincial director responsible for preschool and primary education, stated that the ceremony aimed to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of various stakeholders in the education sector. Sawadogo emphasized that these awards should serve as motivation for both the recipients and others in the field to strive for greater accomplishments.



Additionally, Sawadogo appealed to all partners to support those on the ground, especially in the current school year, which is marked by the reopening of several schools previously closed due to insecurity. The High Commissioner, Nabé, paid tribute to all contributors for achieving commendable results despite significant challenges, including security issues that disrupted educational activities. He reiterated his commitment to supporting education stakeholders in their mission.



Notably, the best student in the province in the CEP, Abraham Joseph Romba from Saint Joseph B school in Gourcy, received a bicycle and a set of supplies for scoring 151 out of 160 points. Furthermore, the best basic education district (CEB) award went to Tougo, which achieved a success rate of 82.55% in the CEP. The province as a whole reached a success rate of 60.82% for the year 2023.
