Goreangab Mall Signals Shift Towards Township Retail Investment

Windhoek: Oryx Properties says its N.dollars 285 million investment in Goreangab Mall reflects a deliberate strategy to channel capital into historically underserved communities, while expanding access to retail services and economic opportunities in Windhoek's north-western suburbs. Speaking at the official inauguration of the mall in Windhoek on Friday, Oryx Properties Chief Executive Officer, Ben Jooste, said the development was intended to address the long-standing lack of quality retail infrastructure in the area.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Jooste explained that the development was a result of Oryx Properties and Safland's strategic intent to invest in high-growth, high-potential areas that have long lacked quality retail services and infrastructure. Jooste stated that Oryx invested approximately N.dollars 285 million in the project and will retain full ownership of the asset.

He emphasized that the investment extends beyond physical infrastructure. "We believe this investment is not just in bricks and mortar. We believe it is in people, potential and progress," he said. Jooste added that the mall was designed to reduce travel costs and improve access to essential goods and services for residents of Goreangab, Katutura and surrounding areas. The development also incorporates a transport hub to improve commuter access and reduce traffic congestion.

The project was completed within 15 months through a partnership between Oryx Properties and Safland Property Group. Jooste highlighted that the mall demonstrates how commercial property developments can be both financially viable and socially impactful. "The Goreangab Mall is not just a development. It is a signal of intent that Namibia's growth can be inclusive, that investment can be commercially viable but also purposeful, and that partnerships deliver a lasting impact," he said.

Khomas Governor Sam Nujoma welcomed the investment and urged other investors to consider similar developments in peripheral communities. "The Khomas Region is open for business, and it is our peripheral communities that present the most compelling frontier for sustainable, inclusive growth," he stated.
