BOGANDÉ — High Commissioner Jean Baptiste Béogo convened a crucial meeting with the constituted bodies of Gnagna province on Friday, July 26, 2024, to discuss the ongoing challenges and progress across various sectors within the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting, held at the Bogandé high commission, brought together members from technical services and associative structures to evaluate the performance and resilience of public services amid a challenging security environment. The roundtable discussions highlighted that, despite security concerns, the province managed to successfully conduct school examinations with improved results and reopened two secondary schools in Bilanga and Manni during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Healthcare strategies were adapted to cope with the influx of displaced populations, leading to the reopening of closed Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) in city centers as advanced health posts. However, the security situation continues to pose significant challenges, affecting freedom of movement and economic activities, notably impacting agricultural productivity and income sources for host populations. The Provincial Directorate of Humanitarian Action called for increased support for these populations.
Infrastructure maintenance has been hindered by the security situation, with the Bogandé-Manni road section particularly at risk. The provincial authorities and bodies expressed a strong desire for the reopening of financial institutions and the restoration of technical financial services to facilitate transactions and address the limited capacities of mobile money services.
High Commissioner Béogo commended the efforts and resilience of all actors and bodies involved, including the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland, encouraging them to persist in their efforts to secure the province from terrorism.
The participants appreciated the initiative and requested more frequent meetings to better coordinate responses to the province's challenges.
