Global South and East Increasing Influence in World Affairs, Says Russian Foreign Minister

MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has pointed out the increasing influence of the Global South and the East in shaping global policies, amidst shifts in international power dynamics.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Lavrov discussed these changes in a recent publication in the journal Russia in Global Affairs, where he criticized the West for undermining the globalization model it once established. He emphasized that the growing involvement of regions like Asia, Africa, and Latin America in international forums is becoming essential, especially as traditional power structures led by Western nations face challenges.

Lavrov remarked on the evolving dynamics within the G20, indicating that the dominance of G7 countries is waning. He underscored the importance of acknowledging these shifts as they represent the broader interests of the global majority, which sees cooperation rather than confrontation as the pathway to resolving world issues. The Russian Foreign Minister's comments highlight the necessity for major economic forums and decision-making bodies to adapt to the increasing roles of these emerging regions in global governance.
