Laikipia, Kenya – Residents of Githuci village in Umande ward, Laikipia County, are calling on their local leaders to rehabilitate the area’s roads, which have become impassable due to ongoing heavy rains. The community’s frustration was highlighted by an incident where mourners were forced to carry a casket for over two kilometers to a burial site, as the hearse could not navigate the deteriorated roads.

According to Kenya News Agency, Local resident Ruth Wanjiru expressed the community’s grievances, emphasizing the need for elected leaders to fulfill their pledges and address the dire road conditions. Despite numerous appeals, residents feel their concerns have been ignored by the county leadership.

Mwangi Michanjo, another resident, lamented the challenges faced due to the poor state of the roads, noting their proximity to the governor’s office and appealing for urgent rehabilitation. Michael Maina, echoing the sentiment of his fellow villagers, expressed disappointment in the lack of development and the empty promises from elected officials. The community is calling for immediate action to improve the roads, seeking parity with other areas in the county that have better infrastructure.
