Oniiwe A: A three-year-old girl reportedly drowned in a pool of water at Oniiwe A village in the Oshikoto Region on Sunday. Namibian Police Force Acting Regional Commander for Oshikoto, Deputy Commissioner James Nandapo, informed Nampa on Sunday that the incident occurred around 12h30.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the deceased was identified as Patricia Dumingu, whose parents are both Angolan nationals working as domestic workers in the village. Nandapo said the girl was at home with her mother, under a tree in front of their house.

‘The mother went inside the house, leaving the child under the tree. The house is surrounded by rainwater, and it is reported that while the mother was in the house, the child drowned,’ Nandapo said. The girl was not breathing and her mother took her to Onayena Health Centre, where she was certified dead upon arrival by nurses.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Onandjokwe State Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
