Gibeon: The Gibeon Village Council handed over personal hygiene items to inmates and beverages to officials of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) here on Tuesday as a token of appreciation for their tireless efforts to keep the village safe.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Chairperson of the village council, Ellerien Isaaks, emphasized the council's commitment to strengthening its partnership with NamPol in curbing crime and building a safer community. Isaaks stated, "The initiative reflects our continued commitment to support law enforcement efforts and rehabilitation programmes. Our sustained cooperation is key to maintaining peace and order in Gibeon."
Isaaks highlighted strategies for reducing crime, including effective communication, sharing concerns, and collaborating on community-benefiting initiatives, while urging the police to conduct regular patrols, particularly in bars and shebeens, and reduce noise pollution. The chairperson also raised a concern about pedestrians' behavior on the roads, saying they often refuse to make way for vehicles and insult drivers, calling on the police to address the matter.
In her message to the inmates, Isaaks expressed recognition of their challenging journey and conveyed the council's support for their rehabilitation. She encouraged them to learn, grow, and make a positive impact upon returning to their communities.
NamPol Warrant Officer Ndeleni Abel, who received the items on behalf of the Gibeon police station management, expressed gratitude and anticipated continued collaboration with councillors to maintain safety in the town. The donated items included toothbrushes, sanitary pads, deodorants, soap bars, bottled water, and soft drinks.
