Ghanaian Waste Management Expertise to Benefit Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo received a delegation from the Ghanaian group Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, in the presence of the Burkinabe Minister of the Environment, Roger Baro, and the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana, Colonel-Major David Kabr©. This meeting marks a significant step towards establishing a waste treatment plant in Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project emerged from discussions between Burkinabe and Ghanaian authorities following the Ghanaian President's official visit to Burkina Faso on March 10. This initiative forms part of a South-South cooperation effort aimed at promoting sustainable development and creating employment opportunities.

With over two decades of expertise in waste management, Jospong Group, which operates in 24 African countries, intends to leverage the technologies and models proven in Ghana to tackle environmental issues in Burkina Faso. Prime Minister Ou©draogo emphasized the focus on promoting African expertise, highlighting the initiative's potential for youth employment and combating insalubrity. He assured the government's support for investors contributing to national development.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong of JGC expressed confidence in the vision of Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, particularly regarding job creation and prosperity. He announced the forthcoming signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of the Environment, which is crucial before commencing infrastructure development.

In a bid to foster local empowerment, the Jospong group plans to train young Burkinabe individuals in Ghana, equipping them to manage the plant and related services independently. "We do not intend to import Ghanaian workers to Burkina Faso. We will train young Burkinabe people who will take charge of waste management in their country," Dr. Agyepong stated.

This partnership underscores both nations' commitment to enhancing cooperation through tangible and lasting projects, offering innovative solutions to Burkina Faso's environmental challenges.
