Ghanaian Entrepreneur Donates Over 13 Million FCFA in Food to Burkinabè Refugees in Ghana

KUMASI—Dr. Obed Asante, the CEO of Ghana Nuts Limited and International Oils and Fats Burkina, on Thursday donated food valued at approximately 13.671 million FCFA to Burkinabè refugees residing in northern Ghana. The donation was received by Tobignaré Jacques Gouba, the interim manager of the Consulate General of Burkina Faso in Kumasi.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Kwadwo Obeng Abogye, this contribution reflects Dr. Asante's commitment to and solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso, who are currently facing significant security and humanitarian challenges. Mr. Abogye praised the resilience and hard work of the refugees and announced that Dr. Asante would also provide them with a 1,000-hectare field. Additionally, Dr. Asante will support the refugees with agricultural inputs and has committed to purchasing all their production of maize, soybeans, sesame, ginger, onions, and shea kernels for his factories.

Acting Manager of the Consulate General of Burkina, Jacques Gouba, expressed his gratitude towards Dr. Asante for his generosity, stating that the food donation would provide immediate relief to the beneficiaries.

The savannah region and Eastern Bono region of Ghana are estimated to host 923 Burkinabè refugees, many of whom fled due to terrorist attacks in their home country.
