Germany Provides Modern Military Equipment to Burkina Faso for Counter-Terrorism Efforts

Ouagadougou – In a significant move to bolster Burkina Faso’s fight against terrorism, the Federal Republic of Germany has provided “modern weapons” and equipment to the West African nation. The donation is aimed at supporting Burkina Faso in its crucial battle against armed terrorist groups.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Burkina Faso, the provision of modern weaponry is essential for effectively combating terrorism. He made this announcement during a handover ceremony at the Sangoulé Lamizana camp, where the German government’s contribution to military engineering was presented.

The equipment, valued at 25 million euros or approximately 16.4 billion CFA francs, includes specialized vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, an all-terrain crane, a mobile drill, and two drinking water bottling systems capable of producing 700 bottles per hour.

Dr. von Münchow-Pohl emphasized the ongoing cooperation between Burkina Faso and Germany in the fight against terrorism, noting significant achievements resulting from this collaboration. He underlined that the main goal of this support is to enhance the operational capabilities of the Burkinabè armed forces on the ground. This collaboration, established since 2020, has already led to the third delivery of such equipment.

Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Defense and Veterans, expressed gratitude for Germany’s support, acknowledging its alignment with the country’s current military needs. He detailed the utility of the equipment, including a camp protection system with a device for deploying HESCO barriers, machines for refueling, armored ambulances for medical evacuation, and systems for water treatment and bottling. This comprehensive support package is designed to improve the living conditions of soldiers in the field and enhance their operational effectiveness.
