Geopolitics in the Sahel: ISMK Mobilizes Experts and Students in Koudougou Around National Sovereignty

Koudougou: The Higher Institute of Management of Koudougou (ISMK) organized a public conference focused on international relations, with an emphasis on national sovereignty in Koudougou. This event, held under the patronage of the governor of the Nando region, Adama Jean Yves Bere, and chaired by the representative of the Presidency of Faso to the Nando region, Pema Florent Neya, aimed to reflect on Burkina Faso's contributions to the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) amidst a "Popular Progressive Revolution."

According to Burkina Information Agency, ISMK, in line with its mission of fostering education and civic awareness, convened administrative authorities, academics, and future diplomats to examine the current geopolitical landscape. The conference commenced with the national anthem, Ditany¨, setting a patriotic tone for the discussions that centered on the theme "International Relations and the Popular Progressive Revolution: What Contribution Has the Burkinab¨ Presidency Made to the Confederation of Sahel States?" This highlighted Burkina Faso's pivotal role in the evolving regional security and cooperation framework.

Prominent figures in Burkinabe diplomacy were invited to provide insights. The keynote speaker, Dr. Poussi Sawadogo, an ambassador and current Boussoum Keoog-Naaba Koobo, shared his perspective on Burkina Faso's transformation. He stated that the country's presidency of the AES signifies a "firm commitment to change and revolution in words, behaviors, and actions," positioning Burkina Faso as a "major geopolitical player" amid complex interactions with global powers like the United States, China, Europe, and Russia. Dr. Sawadogo stressed the importance of Africa reclaiming its sovereignty and respect on the international stage.

Accompanying Dr. Sawadogo, Ambassador Ousmane Ba, Technical Inspector of Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demystified the often opaque mechanisms of international relations for students and participants. Governor Bere praised the organization of the conference for facilitating understanding and mobilization for the AES's cause.

Dr. Jonas Koala, Nando's Regional Director of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, supported the event, emphasizing the university's role in engaging students with current issues to foster discussions about Burkina Faso's future development. He expressed hope that the conference would inspire students to pursue careers in diplomacy.

Ms. Franceline Dibloni/Tiemtore, Director General of ISMK, expressed satisfaction with the event's strong turnout, highlighting its role in intellectual engagement amidst national challenges. She emphasized the need for self-reliance to achieve the desired sovereignty. Furthermore, the conference showcased ISMK's "International Relations" program, underscoring the need to train professionals to advance Burkina Faso's influence.

The interactive discussions illuminated the security and economic challenges confronting the AES region. The organizers concluded by urging citizens to actively participate in national sovereignty beyond government circles. Through this initiative, ISMK reaffirms its status as a leading institution, blending academic rigor with support for the national refounding dynamic spearheaded by the RPP authorities.
