“In a statement dated April 14, 2023, the European Union, through its Spokesperson, Mrs. Nabila MASSRALI, took note of the adoption of the decree on general mobilization in Burkina Faso and reiterated to the authorities of the Transition its messages “so that the armed struggle” against terrorism does not take place to the detriment “of human rights and international humanitarian law”.
She also expressed her concerns about the “restriction of civic and democratic space” and called on the authorities of the Transition to carry out in-depth investigations into all allegations of human rights violations.
The Government thanks the European Union for its solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso and the interest shown in the human rights situation in Burkina Faso.
The Government emphasizes that for eight (8) years, hordes of lawless terrorists have been murdering, looting, raping and martyring innocent populations in order to fulfill their evil designs on Burkina Faso.
The essence of their disastrous enterprise is based on the massive violation of human rights and the pure and simple denial of the right to life for thousands of cowardly murdered Burkinabè, and millions of others who have their salvation only in borrowing, constrained and forced the dehumanizing paths of internal exile.
Despite this difficult security and humanitarian context, the Government is sparing no effort to respect its commitments in terms of human rights and international humanitarian law and to protect the rights and freedoms of all Burkinabè as well as all those who live in Burkina Faso. .
This is also the meaning of our fight and the heroic resistance of our people against terrorism.
A struggle for life, human dignity and freedom.
The Government reassures the European Union and the international community as a whole that the decree on general mobilization and warning takes into account the protection of the intangible rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Burkina Faso and the international conventions to which our country is a party. .
The implementing texts for this decree, which are in the process of being adopted, include the prevention and reparation of possible cases of human rights violations.
Moreover, the Government remains firmly committed to the fight against impunity in general and particularly in the context of the armed fight against terrorism.
The ongoing operationalization of the provost aims to refine the documentation of possible cases of violation and violation of human rights in order to better fight against impunity.
The Government is aware of the issues related to the preservation of civic and democratic space.
It attaches great importance to dialogue and consultation with all the vital forces of the Nation in all the major decisions it takes, in the interest of strengthening the conditions for the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.
The Government remains ready to continue the dialogue with the European Union to strengthen the freedom and dignity of the populations unjustly affected by the security and humanitarian crisis and reaffirms its commitment to defend the vital interests of our people.
