General Education Classes Resume in Angola for Over 9.6 Million Students

Luanda: Classes for the second term of the general education system began on Monday, January 5th in Angola, marking a continuation of the academic year which has enrolled more than 9.6 million students. The current academic year officially commenced on 1 September 2025 and has resumed following the festive break.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the National School Calendar covers public, private, and public-private pre-school, primary, and secondary educational institutions. The second term will span from 5 January 2026 to 10 April 2026, with exams scheduled from 18 to 27 March and a subsequent two-week break beginning on 30 March.

The academic year will proceed with the third and final term starting on 13 April 2026 and concluding on 8 July 2026. Termly exams are slated for 10 to 19 June, followed by national exams from 29 June to 8 July. The academic year is set to officially end on 31 July 2026. Students will enjoy holidays after completing their final exams, while teaching staff will have their break from 23 July to 21 August 2026. During this period, seminars and teaching workshops are planned from 24 to 28 August 2026.

In the first term, students observed a two-week holiday for Christmas and New Year from 22 December to 2 January. The first term exams took place from 10 to 19 December, with results published in the first week of January classes.

Official data for the 2025-2026 academic year reveals there are 126,204 classrooms and 208,488 teachers available. The data also indicates that 85% of public schools have introductory classes, with a school enrolment rate of 64.4%. The enrolment rate for secondary education stands at 61%, while the first and second cycles report a rate of 35%.
