As we continue to celebrate Women’s Month, a team of SAPS female investigators in the Northern Cape led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mantsheke Lekhele, took an initiative to give special attention to Gender-Based Violence-related cases in the ZFM District on Saturday, 19 August 2023.

The members from Francis Baardt District along with the Provincial Tracing Team, the local FCS Unit and Detectives branch were welcomed by Major General Thabo Mphuthi, who also extended her appreciation for their collective efforts in joining hands with the ZFM district in a bid to have successful crime detection as far as Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) is concerned.

Major General Lekhele addressed the members and tasked them accordingly, clearly indicating her expectations. She emphasized that the main objective of the operation is to clean the streets of any wanted suspects.

The members dealt with 56 GBV-related dockets successfully, 31 dockets were concluded and closed while five suspects were successfully traced and arrested.

Gen Lekhele encouraged the members to ensure that GBVF perpetrators are brought to justice by building solid cases through proper investigation that will ultimately create a safe space for women and children in the community
