Gassan Commune Celebrates Resettlement with Supportive March for President Ibrahim Traor

Nayala: The commune of Gassan celebrates its reinstatement with a march in support of President Ibrahim Traor. Three years after the forced displacement of its people, the commune of Gassan celebrated its resettlement on Saturday with a march in support of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor, and the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

According to Burkina Information Agency, this march aims to express the gratitude of the people for the gradual reconquest of the area and the return of hope. The organizers explained that the situation began to improve from June 2025 thanks to operations carried out by the fighting forces.

The chief of the land of Gassan, Djibo Djibril, the representative of the women, and the representative of the village of Koss took turns praising the bravery of the FDS and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) throughout the march through the streets of the city of Gassan. They pleaded with the authorities for support for the municipality through micro-projects, access to drinking water, and the revival of economic activities.

"It is thanks to the fighting forces that we are here today," they declared through slogans and messages of encouragement. The municipal coordinator of the coalition of citizen watch movements, Hamidou Oudraogo, for his part, encouraged the youth and the population to strengthen social cohesion and support the security effort. He also stressed the need to resettle the villages that were still displaced and to reopen the roads, particularly the Tougan-Ddougou section.

Traditional and religious authorities offered blessings and called for unity, solidarity, and collaboration with the fighting forces to consolidate security gains. The president of the special delegation of the commune of Gassan welcomed the popular mobilization, stressing that the liberation of the commune constitutes "a victory of the political will of the State to never abandon its citizens." He reassured that the grievances expressed, including the opening of roads, access to drinking water, and the resettlement of villages, would be passed on to the authorities.

At the end of the demonstration, the people of Gassan raised 118,300 CFA francs to support the fighting forces, as a sign of appreciation for their efforts in promoting security and the gradual return to normalcy. Certificates of recognition and envelopes were handed over to the various forces present in Nayala for the reconquest of the territory.
