GAPEF Calls for Reconciliation and Unity in Burkina Faso Amidst Tensions

Ouagadougou — The Action Group for the Promotion, Education and Training of Women and Young Girls (GAPEF) has issued a plea for peace and dialogue in Burkina Faso, targeting those referred to as ‘lost children’ who have resorted to armed opposition.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of GAPEF, Dr. Justine Kielem/Coulidiaty, made a poignant appeal during a reforestation ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs in Ouagadougou. The event, themed ‘Tree and Hope,’ symbolized a call for national unity and the restoration of peace. Dr. Kielem/Coulidiaty emphasized that those who have taken up arms against the state should abandon their efforts and return to the negotiation table, urging reconciliation and coexistence within the community framework.

Dr. Kielem/Coulidiaty highlighted the importance of solidarity and collective action in reclaiming national territory integrity. She pointed out that GAPEF is actively collaborating with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and other societal segments through a civil-military campaign to foster unity and resolve conflicts. The significance of the ‘palaver tree’ in traditional conflict resolution was also noted, underscoring its role in healing divisions and moving forward together.

The reforestation event was not just about planting trees but also served as a metaphor for growing a peaceful and secure society in Burkina Faso. Dr. Kielem/Coulidiaty’s message was clear: it is crucial for all citizens to work together towards building a harmonious nation.
