Gaoua Regional Hospital Launches Eye Health Campaign in Loropeni

Poni: The Gaoua Regional Hospital Center (CHR) spearheaded a free cataract and glaucoma screening campaign in Loropeni, contributing to Burkina Faso's fight against blindness.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was held on Saturday, January 10, 2025, with support from the Association for the Promotion of Eye Health (APSO).

Led by Dr. Losseny Ouedraogo, the medical team saw a significant number of individuals seeking eye examinations. The campaign was deemed successful by the head of the mission due to the high level of participation and the number of patients screened.

Post-consultations, 36 individuals were identified for surgery, which is scheduled for January 23, 2026, at the Gaoua Regional Hospital. These forthcoming operations will be supported by a team of ophthalmologists from Ouagadougou, under the auspices of the Burkina Faso Society of Ophthalmology (SBO).

Dr. Ouedraogo also encouraged those who missed the opportunity for testing in Loropeni to attend consultations in Gaoua on January 15, 2026. This campaign aligns with the national effort to prevent and treat eye diseases, aiming to reduce blindness cases in Burkina Faso.
