Bazèga: The public primary school in Gana, located in the rural commune of Doulougou, province of Bazèga, celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday, December 16, 2023. The event was marked by tributes, testimonies, and recognition, commemorating the school’s five decades of contributing to education and community development.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a former student and president of the organizing committee, the celebration aimed to honor past and current teachers for their dedication to educating thousands of children from the village and its surroundings. Modeste Ouédraogo, the president of the special delegation of the commune of Doulougou, highlighted the school’s significant role since its inception in 1972 in nurturing individuals for various sectors, including public administration, international institutions, the private sector, and NGOs. Sylvain Nana, one of the school’s first teachers, reflected on the initial challenging conditions but noted the teaching staff’s commitment to shaping future leaders. Minister André Joseph Ouédraogo, the event’s patron, praised the school’s faculty for their perseverance and dedication to the education of local children. He emphasized the importance of girls’ education and encouraged parents to support this initiative. The celebration featured cultural and sporting activities, and presentations of certificates of recognition and school kits. The Gana public primary school, which opened in 1972 with three classrooms and later expanded to six in 1986-1987, has educated over 4,900 students since its establishment.
