Gambos: The Gambos Municipal Hospital in Huíla province has launched ultrasound services, marking a significant advancement in local healthcare access. This new development aims to reduce the necessity for pregnant women to be medically evacuated to Lubango for imaging exams. According to Angola Press News Agency, the hospital's director, Edson Songo, reported that the introduction of ultrasound services allowed the hospital to serve 50 pregnant women on its inaugural day. This service is expected to alleviate financial burdens on the local population, providing them with essential medical care without the need to travel long distances. Furthermore, Edson Songo revealed plans for the imminent introduction of X-ray services, with equipment already on site at the hospital. The installation, funded by the Municipal Administration, is set to occur in the coming days. The municipality of Gambos, home to approximately 109,000 residents primarily engaged in herding, is located 156 kilometres south of Lubango and s aw the addition of a new hospital in 2025.
