Tehran: Burkina Faso took part on Friday, July 3rd, in the official ceremony of tribute and remembrance organized in memory of the Guide of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, killed on February 28, 2026. The Burkinabe delegation was led by the Comrade Minister of Foreign Affairs, representing the Comrade President of Faso, His Excellency Ibrahim TRAORE.
According to Burkina Information Agency, at the Mosalla Imam Khomeini complex in Tehran, where the international memorial ceremony took place, His Excellency Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE presented Burkina Faso's condolences to the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He then signed the book of condolences, paying tribute to "the memory of a leader whose political and spiritual influence has marked several generations."
On the sidelines of his participation in the ceremony honoring the Iranian President, the Foreign Minister was received in audience by his Iranian counterpart, H.E. Dr. Abbas Araghchi. This meeting, which is part of the dynamic of strengthening bilateral relations between Burkina Faso and the Islamic Republic of Iran, focused mainly on the prospects for intensifying cooperation, particularly in the areas of defense, security and diplomacy, as well as in the economic and commercial field.
His Excellency Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE also took advantage of his stay in Tehran to hold discussions with several of his African counterparts, notably from Congo, Namibia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, on regional cooperation issues and prospects for collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader brought together nearly one hundred foreign delegations, including several from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Tributes will continue until July 9, 2026, with stops planned in Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad, where the Iranian leader will be buried.
