Fukula’s failure to appear in court

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has noted with concern the antics deployed by 31-year-old Phadima Fukula who has ignored several summons to appear in court thus prompting authorities to seek assistance from the public as Fakula is being sought by the East London based Serious Corruption Investigation of the Hawks on charges relating to perjury, after he allegedly reported corruption cases in Johannesburg and East London against the then Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo and the Premier of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane respectively.

A counter charge of perjury was opened against Fukula after two conflicting statement versions on the two cases that he had opened were discovered. A case of crimen injuria was also reported by the Premier against the suspect. The Hawks investigated all four cases in order to ascertain their veracity.

The public assistance notice released on 11 July 2023 indicated that summons were issued against Fukula informing him that he was expected to appear before East London Magistrates’ court on 29 August 2023. As from the day Fukula was sought, not a word was heard from him nor any public individual except for certain media houses that he repeatedly engaged with. This is an indication that Fukula is aware that he is being sought by the Hawks.

This serves as a warning that should he fail to avail himself in court on 29 August 2023, a warrant of arrest will be applied for and executed accordingly upon issue. The investigating officer Lt Colonel Thembela Mtyobile is still available to be contacted on 071 481 2421 for any information on Fakula’s whereabouts in this regard. Information received will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.

The Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya is still appealing to the public as well as Media Houses for assistance in order to avoid the inevitable.
