FTDES holds 1st national conference on female farm workers

The first national conference on female farm workers held by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) began on Friday.

The two-day conference was attended by female farmhands from different regions of the country, as well as representatives of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (ATFD) and the Tunisian League for Human ghts (LTDH).

The conference will, based on participants’ demands, look for an optimal coordination framework that can bring together female farm workers and be representative of all parties and capable of defending their economic and social rights and making their voices heard in order to improve their situation and reduce their suffering, said Hayet Attar FTDES officer in charge of the file.

The conference, which comes after almost a year of studies on the situation of female farm workers, will make it possible to draw up a plan for achieving women’s demands with the participation of organisations and associations, she added.

ATFD President Neyla Zoghlemi expressed the association’s determination to continue supporting female farm workers to achieve their demands, including dignity and equality in social protection.
