French Prime Minister Michel Barnier Addresses the Nation, Acknowledges Challenges

Paris: Newly appointed French Prime Minister Michel Barnier addressed the nation on Thursday, acknowledging the serious state of the country and promising to respond to widespread concerns about social inequality, economic hardship, and political disenchantment.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Barnier stated, “We are in a serious moment (…) we expect a Prime Minister to tell the truth, even if it is harsh,” emphasizing the need for transparency about France’s financial and ecological challenges. He also recognized the growing frustration and suffering in cities, neighborhoods, and rural areas, saying the government must address the feelings of abandonment and injustice felt by many citizens.

Barnier, who took over from outgoing Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, promised to respect all political forces in France and announced plans to present his program to parliament in the coming days. Key issues on his agenda include education, illegal immigration, national security, and improving the standard of living for French citizens. He also stressed the importance of enhancing France’s influence and reputation on the international stage.

Barnier’s address comes as France faces mounting pressure to tackle economic challenges and restore confidence in its political system.
