Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane and the District Commissioner of Mangaung Metro Major General Arthur Adams led a team of Visible Policing Unit members in an arrest of the 34-year-old male in dealing in dagga earlier today, Friday 2 June 2023.
The police top brass in Free State Province commanded the execution of various crime prevention actions across Mangaung Metro. General Adams was traveling on N1 National Road South on his was to visit the members at the road towards Tierpoort area. Behind General Adams was a police vehicle patrolling along the road.
A Silver Toyota Corolla sedan was spotted by the police and stopped to be searched. The Provincial Commissioner, who was also on her way to visit the members at the roadblock stopped where the Silver Toyota Corolla was being searched and observed that the search was conducted in an orderly manner.
During the vehicle search a large amount of cash was found hidden in different compartments of the vehicle. The search was extended to the boot and a green 25-litre plastic container with a black lid and a black and gold carry bag was found. Inside the container and the bag the police found compressed dried leaves of dagga commonly referred to as Swazi.
The 34-year-old male was questioned about the large amount of cash and the dagga found in his possession. He explained to the police that he was from Mfenfetheni, Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal and he was on his way to Aliwal North in Eastern Cape where he always deliver dagga for his girlfriend to sell.
A case of Dealing in dagga was opened at Parkweg Police Station. The seized dagga was weighed at 23.065 kilograms with an estimated street of R75 000-00. The vehicle which was used in commission of crime as well as the money believed to be the proceeds of crime was booked in Evidence Management System and the suspect detained in police custody.
The suspect will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Monday 5 June 2023.
