Koupéla: Hundreds of vulnerable people received free medical care in the commune of Koupéla, Burkina Faso, during a two-day event organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with local military and government agencies.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the free healthcare session was held at the Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS) in Badtenga from October 1 to 2, 2024. The initiative, part of the regional project "Preventing and Responding to Violent Extremism in the Atlantic Corridor," was funded by Australia and aimed to provide care to internally displaced persons and host populations.

Issouf Diallo, one of the beneficiaries from the village of Gargaoua, expressed his gratitude for the care received, noting that the collaboration between civilians and the armed forces is key to strengthening local cohesion. Another recipient, Delphine Yougma from Koupéla, praised the initiative, saying it provided vital healthcare at no cost.

Dr. Ibrahima Yougbaré, a medical captain, emphasized that the collaboration between the military and civilian sectors improves relations and can aid in the fight against terrorism. He noted that most elderly patients sought treatment for chronic conditions, while children were treated primarily for acute illnesses such as malaria and respiratory infections.
